From the Superintendent
President Abraham Lincoln once remarked that democracy was the "last, best hope of earth." On Tuesday, the democratic process was fulfilled as the voters of both our communities settled the three-year open question about building a new school. As a citizen and fervent supporter of the democratic process, I accept and respect the voters' decision. Thank you to all voters who engaged in our shared democratic process.
That being said, the fact remains that our schools continue to struggle with, and face, a significant space problem. I am committed, along with the Board of Directors and Leadership Team, to ensuring that the learning conditions for all of our students are of the highest priority. We will continue working on short- and long-term plans that meet the needs of all our students and their teachers.
I would also like to take a moment in recognizing all of the veterans of foreign wars in our community. Their selfless sacrifice for the sake of our democracy and liberty transcends words. This week, Mabel I. Wilson School students and staff honored several of our community's veterans during a special assembly. Homemade cards of gratitude made by students are also being delivered to the Togus VA Medical Center in Augusta on Friday to show appreciation for our state's veterans who are currently in need of medical care.
