Earlier this week, the Board's Building Committee that is charged with leading the proposed new primary school project held its first public informational session at the GCA. If you were not able to attend in-person or missed the live streamed event, you can watch the full session on MSAD #51's YouTube channel at this link: September 27, 2022 Public Info Session. A second session will be offered on Wednesday, October 12 @ 6:00 PM at the North Yarmouth Community Center.

I also invite you to view this illuminating and exciting virtual tour of the exterior of the proposed school, as created by the architects: Virtual Walk Around

This is the vote of a generation when it comes to the long-term integrity of MSAD #51's infrastructure and ability to appropriately program for all of its students, both current and future. With 200 more students at MIW than six years ago and 350-400 more projected over the next decade, the time has come to make a definitive decision about the future of our schools.

Not only will a new school relieve overcrowding at the primary level, it will eliminate space-related stress at other grade spans in order to comfortably educate all of the district's students. If approved on November 8, the new primary school would educate students in grades PreK-grade 2, while reconfiguring MIW as an intermediate school for grades 3-5 and reverting GMS back to grades 6-8 only. GHS would continue for grades 9-12.

Please educate yourself about the history of enrollment studies, the current state of 21 modular classrooms at MIW and GMS, and the future projections that necessitate action now without further delay. Three years of planning, studies, architectural renderings, concept designs, site location, and building committees have brought us to one compelling conclusion: MSAD #51 is short by one entire school facility and must build a new school in order to effectively and safely educate our students in the years and decades ahead.

Please visit our district's informational page on the proposed new school project and become informed about this important project: New Primary School Webpage.

Jeff Porter

Student Flu Vaccine Clinic

The district will be partnering with Northern Light Home Care & Hospice to provide the annual Flu Vaccine clinic to our students. This year we are doing an “in school” student flu clinic. If your student is in the afternoon Pre-K program, please use the Greely High School link to complete the signup process. Afternoon Pre-K will receive their vaccine at MIW in the afternoon of Thursday, October 27th.

In order for your student to be able to obtain the flu vaccine at school, you must fill out the online paperwork with the link provided below. If the form is not completely filled out your student will not be able to receive the vaccine. The vaccine will be provided at no out of pocket cost but Northern Light does bill your health insurance for administration of the vaccine. Please be sure to fill out the insurance information on the online form.

On the day of the flu vaccine clinic, please make sure your student dresses appropriately to allow easy exposure of the upper arm.

Flu vaccines will not be available at school outside of this window. If you do not want your student to participate in the school clinic you can visit your healthcare provider or a local pharmacy for the flu vaccination!

Please use the link below to complete the online registration for your student. You must fill out one form per student with the corresponding school in which they attend.

Friday, October 28, 9:30am - 11:30am, Mabel I Wilson Flu Clinic

Thursday, October 27, 9:00am - 11:00am, Greely Middle School 4-8
