Pre-K Lottery is Now Open!

MSAD #51 (Cumberland-North Yarmouth) is pleased to announce that we will continue our small public Pre-K Program for 32 students (16 each session) starting in September 2022.

The program will run half days (morning and afternoon session) four days per week (M, T, Th, F) for approximately 145 days during the school year.  The program is located at Mabel I. Wilson school and is in partnership with Child Development Services.

In order to be considered, your child must be 4, but not 5, years old before October 15, 2022 and you must be a resident of Cumberland or North Yarmouth.  

Screenings will take place via Zoom for eligible children during the week of February 14-18, 2022.

If interested, please fill out the interest application ( later than Friday, January 28, 2022.   

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten registration for MSAD #51 (Cumberland-North Yarmouth) will be held January 24th - January 28th, 2022. If your child will be five years old on or before October 15, 2022, they are eligible to attend kindergarten this fall. You may drop off completed registration packets to the MIW mailbox or mail, scan/email or fax in the completed packets. You will need to provide a picture of your child’s original birth certificate, immunization records and proof of residency to complete the packet. 

If you have a student currently enrolled in a private school and would like them to attend Mabel I. Wilson School in the fall, please register your child during that week as well. 

To obtain registration forms in advance please visit our website ( We want to ensure all incoming students are included in the placement process for the 2022-23 school year. If you have any questions, please call MIW at 829-4825.       

Pooled Testing FINAL ENROLLMENT for the year: Deadline January 3, 2022

When will my student begin pooled testing? 

This will be the final enrollment. Please do not wait to submit your paperwork. Students who are enrolled in pooled testing before the January 3rd deadline at 3:00pm will be added to pools and begin pooled testing in the week of January 17th. If paperwork is received after the above date they will not be able to enroll in pooled testing this school year.

You will need to complete both steps as indicated below to participate. If both steps are not complete, your child will not be added to pooled testing.

There is a two step process to sign up for pooled testing:

Step 1: Complete the registration with the pooled testing vendor, Concentric by Ginko:

*It is extremely important to select the correct school and use your child’s full legal name during this registration, otherwise our data will not merge and there will be delays in adding your child to the pooled program!*

Step 2:  Print, complete and return the BinaxNow consent form to your school nurse.  Students can turn in the form directly to your school nurse via fax, email or turning in a hard copy.

*If you have already submitted a BinaxNow consent form to your school nurse to allow testing due to symptoms you do not need to submit it again as part of the pooled testing process.

New School Building Project Information

New School Project Update

On December 6, the Board of Directors approved the grade span for the proposed new school that will be located on 77 acres of land at 80 Gray Road in North Yarmouth. After two Board workshops and a recommendation from the Board's Facilities Committee, a PK-grade 3 span was settled on for the new school. With this grade span in North Yarmouth, grades 4 & 5 would be housed at MIW, grades 6-8 would be at GMS, and grades 9-12 would remain as it is now.

Oak Point Associates, the architectural firm hired to do the design for the new school, has been tasked with looking at whether the new primary school should be one facility or two separate, smaller buildings on the same site. If separate, the grade spans could be PK & Kindergarten in one building and grades 1-3 in the other building. Both buildings would be within proximity with one another but it would reduce the size of both schools. Oak Point will bring the designs and costs back to the Board for review before proceeding further, most likely sometime in January. Pending Board approval, a referendum on the new school could be set for June 2022.
