Phase II of Equity Work in MSAD #51

On October 18, Superintendent Porter will be recommending that the Board approve hiring Lawrence Alexander, Search Consultant and Practice Leader for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Carney-Sandoe & Associates, an educational leadership consulting firm located in Boston: https://www.carneysandoe.com. Given the intensity of equity work in this community over the last couple of years, I feel strongly that operationalized support is critical in achieving the district’s strategic focus and the Board’s equity goals for the year.

Mr. Alexander has worked with other area school districts, including Yarmouth, Windham-Raymond, and RSU 21 (Kennebunk) all within the last couple of years in the area of equity. Additionally, he has done work for the Maine Superintendents’ Association and was their keynote speaker at the Winter Convocation in January 2021. He is recognized as an expert on equity practices in school settings.

Lawrence will be joining the Board meeting virtually on October 18 to provide an introduction, overview, and answer any questions the Board may have about his work. If you have questions that you would like him to address at the Board meeting, please share them HERE no later than Thursday, October 14.
