December 2012
Community Food Pantry

Students in all grades of MSAD #51 have been involved at one time or another in the donation of food to the Community Food Pantry.  Whether it is through food collection boxes, community outreach or even the trek up the hill to physically drop off the food, MSAD #51 actively supports the Community Food Pantry.  First Grade Teacher Theresa Cameron Raymond works with others on the monthly donations collected at Mabel I. Wilson School and says she is amazed by the generosity of the students and the parents (THANK YOU!!).....and this support continues - at a new location!

On November 2, 2012 the Community Food Pantry opened its doors at the Cumberland Town Hall.  The new location provides longer hours and more convenient space for the approximately 150 families in need of assistance in Cumberland and North Yarmouth.  Honoring the Food Pantry and the donations by the students, especially this time of year, would be enough of a Spotlight, but it is important to recognize the helping hands that made the move possible.

Building and painting the shelves would not have been easy without the help of four admirable people.  As Cumberland Town Manager Bill Shane put it "(Greely High School Assistant Principal) Mar-e Trebilcock pulled this together on very short notice and sent three excellent workers.  They were awesome!  These young men pulled off a monumental task, with positive attitudes, hard work and a willingness to listen to my Old School music for 4 hours."  Hat's off to GHS students Tim Storey, Kyle Bickford and Alex Moore for doing such a wonderful job!

This hard work was followed up by another incredible team of stockers and organizers -community members Karen Campbell, Jean Lamson, Susan Novak, Jeanne Chadbourne and students Sarah Fitch and Emily Fritzon.  If a picture states a thousand words, the small piece of the pantry pictured above can show you just how much work these amazing ladies put into making the pantry attractive and easy to use.

Please remember the Community Food Pantry on your next trip to the Town Hall and bring a donation to help families in your local community.

Cumberland Town Hall is located at 290 Tuttle Rd., Cumberland, ME 04021
