Dear Community Members,
On Wednesday, February 20th, the Superintendent and administrators from Greely High School and Greely Middle School met with Rabbi Hillel Katzir, Director of the Hate Crimes Response Project of the Holocaust and Human Rights Center of Maine, Emily Chaleff, Executive Director of The Jewish Community Alliance of Southern Maine, Robert Treston, civil rights counsel of the Anti-Defamation League, a Cumberland parent and two Greely High School students to discuss the recent incidents involving offensive speech and actions in our school community. During the meeting, school administrators shared the efforts our district has been making to embrace differences and eliminate hate and bias. The community representatives then shared the resources that they have available to assist us in our ongoing work. In the coming days, school administrators will be discussing these resources with their leadership teams. We look forward to collaborating with our community representatives and continuing efforts with our students and community members in order to increase tolerance and understanding. MSAD # 51 is a welcoming, inclusive district and we believe continued work in fostering and maintaining our climate is extremely valuable.
