Public Notice
Annual Asbestos Notification

Pursuant to the Federal Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) notice is hereby given that the MSAD #51 School Department surveyed it’s buildings for the presence of asbestos containing building materials. An Asbestos Management Plan has been prepared and a copy of the plan is available for inspection at the Superintendent’s office and at each of the schools within the district.

Brief Summary and History of Asbestos Activities:

• 1988 District-wide:
Asbestos containing building materials and evaluation surveys were conducted in all MSAD #51 facilities in accordance with the requirements of     the Environmental Protection Agency Title 40 of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 763, Asbestos – Containing Materials in Schools; Final Rule            Notice.

• Greely High School:
The asbestos containing materials were abated as part of various projects including the 2005 renovation project. Approximately 98% of known            asbestos was removed by the end of 2006.

• Greely Middle School:
The new Middle School project specifications required no asbestos containing materials be used in the project.

• North Yarmouth Memorial School:
Only small amounts of Vinyl Asbestos floor tile remain in the building.

• Mabel I Wilson School:
Asbestos materials including thermal system insulation and Vinyl Asbestos floor tile were removed prior the renovation. The project specification
required that no asbestos materials were to be used in the newly renovated buildings.

• Periodic Surveillance:
Six-month periodic inspections are conducted to monitor asbestos containing building-material conditions. Three-Year re-inspections are carried     out to re-inspect asbestos materials.

• Response Actions:
All asbestos response actions are performed by certified and licensed individuals.
