Dear MSAD Community Members,

I am pleased to announce that MSAD #51 has been selected for the 4th Annual Advanced Placement (AP) District Honor Roll.  MSAD #51 is one of only three districts in Maine to earn recognition on the AP Honor Roll this year.  This recognition was presented by the College Board to just 477 school districts across the U.S. and Canada, and honors those schools that were able to increase access to Advanced Placement® coursework while maintaining or increasing the percentage of students earning scores of 3 or higher on AP Exams.  The district also received this award in 2010.

As part of a long-term commitment to increasing student access to challenging coursework, Greely High School now offers 13 Advanced Placement courses in addition to 17 International Baccalaureate courses.  Last spring, 173 Greely High School students participated in over 350 International Baccalaureate (IB) and Advanced Placement (AP) exams.  Many of these students earned scores that were high enough to earn college credit in several different areas.

AP is a rigorous academic program that offers more than 30 courses in a wide range of subjects and college-level assessments developed and scored by college and university faculty members and experienced AP teachers.  According to the College Board, a score of 3 or higher on an AP exam represents the score point that is predictive of college success and college graduation.

Please join me in congratulating Principal Dan McKeone and the staff and students at Greely High School for this achievement.

Sincerely,

Sally Loughlin

MSAD #51 Interim Superintendent
