School Days - Power Outage Well, we had our annual "October Surprise" storm a couple of weeks ago, which seems now like a trend. With the two school days that were missed during the wind storm, we will need to make these up like any other missed days at the end of the school year in June, which makes the last day of school now Friday, June 12 (was June 10). As we move into the winter months, we will surely have other storm/snow days that will also need to be made up and these also will be added to the calendar.
A new state law this year does allow districts to use "blizzard bags" in lieu of one on-site school day, which essentially means students can work at home and the day would officially count. Our district won't be considering this option, though, given that there are several restrictions attached to a waiver, along with a two-step approval process that can't be considered by the state until the spring. As a result, we will be in school for the full number of days in our calendar and will add the days missed at the end. Challenge Day Volunteers Still Needed - Nov 4 and Nov 5 If you are interested in being a volunteer for Challenge Day, please contact Chris Hoffman at choffman@msad51.org or 207-829-4805.
