Face Covering Update for Athletics

Based on the recent announcement regarding the wearing of face masks at outdoor events, the following guidelines will be in place for those events overseen by the Maine Principals’ Association.  Please know that these recommendations fully align with the Maine Community Sport Guidelines that have been updated.

  • Masks are not required for outdoor practices and competitions.  Masks are recommended when 6 feet of physical distance is hard to maintain (e.g., athletes on the bench). They are also required when individuals go inside (e.g., to locker rooms, rest rooms, or on a bus).
  • Spectators are not required to wear a mask at outside events if they are able to maintain 6 feet of distancing.

Please note that while MSAD #51 does not require masking outdoors at athletic events, we continue to recommend masking outdoors for optimal health and safety. This change applies only to athletics. Masking during the regular school day when outdoors (recess, playground use, etc.) will not change until more guidance from the Department of Education is provided.

Walk-In Vaccine Clinics Open to 16+

We have been made aware of free walk-in COVID-19 vaccine clinics for anyone over 16 (students under 18 will need to have a parent/guardian with them).  The clinics are offered by Northern Light.  The clinics will take place today, Thursday, April 29 from 4:00pm - 7:00pm and Saturday, May 1 from 9:00am - 12:00pm at the old Pier 1 building at the Maine Mall (368 Maine Mall Road).  The Pfizer vaccine will be offered for those under 18 and a choice of vaccine for others.  There is no out of pocket charge for the vaccine.   Please note that you must bring with you either a Maine ID or school ID and an insurance card if you are insured.  A parent or guardian must accompany anyone under 18.
