2nd ANNUAL BEE WRAP UP
Foundation 51 held its annual Community Adult Spelling Bee on March 10th. Teams of community members, parents, and teachers assembled to try their hands at spelling words such as “corollary,” “evanescent,” “camaraderie,” and many more. As the number of teams was whittled down, the words became more challenging. With this year’s new “By Back In” pass, teams were able to donate a small fee and remain in the competition after misspelling a word, which kept the Bee all abuzz!
When the final word was called and judged, a winner was crowned. The team consisting of Jen Tyll, Michelle Zimmerman, and Kevin O’Sullivan, reigned champion of the Bee!
Thank you to all who attended and supported Foundation 51 at this event. We hope to see you all again next March!
We are grateful for our generous sponsors, donors, and attendees who made this special night such a success. The funds raised at this event allow us to continue our mission to enrich the educational experience of students in our community.

FAREWELL & THANK YOU
We would like to sincerely thank the following departing Board members; all of whom have given Foundation 51 their dedicated time and support over the past several years: Jerome Gamache, Grants Committee 2013-2016, Adam Moody, Finance Committee 2013-2016, Anne Robbins, President of the Board, Chair Fundraising and Events Committee 2009-2016, and Lani Toscano, Fundraising and Events Committee 2012-2016.
Parent University brings parents together in our community to learn from experts and each other about key topics relevant to raising and educating kids in today’s world. The Greely PTO (Parent/Teacher Organization) has run a similar parent educational lecture series in the past. This fall, both the PTO and Foundation 51 had an interest in planning a parent lecture series, thus the collaboration was formed. Foundation 51 awarded a grant to support Parent University during the Fall grant cycle.
There was remarkable community participation in the inaugural year. A total of six sessions were held. “It was truly a collaborative effort. Sessions attracted anywhere from 15-65 attendees and we were delighted that hundreds of parents in our community were able to benefit from the program. Parents were relieved to learn that they have similar concerns and anxieties as other parents and that together we can find solutions and share useful ideas. We are excited as we plan for another year of valuable discussions within our community,” says Laura Singer, Greely PTO Board Member.
Stay tuned for more FREE and informative sessions this fall! Foundation 51 has helped support this program for the 2016-2017 school year in our Spring grant cycle.
As we say goodbye to some stellar Board members we are excited about the year to come and happy to announce several new members to the Foundation 51 Board. We welcome: Carrie Cianchette of Cumberland, Ted Danforth of North Yarmouth, Sally DelGreco of North Yarmouth, Kim Finch of Cumberland, Rob Larson of Cumberland, Erin McAllister of Cumberland, and Mike Williams of Cumberland. We also welcome new Grants Committee members: Paul Dexter of North Yarmouth, Hillary Doane and Tammie Turner, both of Cumberland.
Thanks to our generous community, Foundation 51 has continued the tradition of providing an additional source of funding to enhance the quality of education in our schools with some new and innovative programs and initiatives.
