Skyline Farm Benefit Trail Ride

Sat., Sept. 20, 9:30 a.m., Pownal, Maine

By Rosemary Whitney

Attention, horseback riders!

Have you ever had the opportunity to explore the Bradbury/Pineland Corridor Trail? Trails protected by the Royal River Conservation Trust? Ridden to the summit of Bradbury Mountain?

Well, courtesy of Skyline Farm and Royal River Conservation Trust (RRCT), as well as many individual landowners, you will have the opportunity to experience these special places woven together in a unique trail ride.

The ride starts and finishes at Snowfields Farm, 450 Lawrence Rd. in Pownal. This year there will be three options: a 6 mile ride, a 10 mile ride, or combine the two for a 16 mile trek.

The six mile ride meanders through the scenic, restored Tryon fields, along quiet dirt roads protected from development by RRCT land trust, woodland paths opened for our use by individual owners, and a magical section of the B/P Corridor Trail.

The ten mile ride adds vertical ascents and descents: following the B/P corridor trail, climbing past the historical quarries of Tryon Mt. and then ascending to the rocky summit of Bradbury Mountain with views out over Casco Bay. Several bridges and streams are crossed in this challenging portion.

Entry form is attached below or may be downloaded from either Skyline Farm: or Royal River Conservation Trust:

Fee for members of either organization is $25.00 and for non-members $35.00; add $5.00 if you would like to combine both rides. Due date is Sept. 15. A $10 late fee applies to entries received after Sept. 15A box lunch for $5.00 can be ordered on the entry form, if desired.

Also attached below is the Royal River Conservation Trust’s map of the Pownal section of the Bradbury/Pineland Corridor Trail to help orient you to the region.
