Spotlight on Achievement

Grace Leavitt, Department Chair for Greely High School's Modern and Classical Language Department, was honored recently by the Foreign Language Association of Maine (FLAME) as the recipient of the Richard Williamson Award for Leadership. This award, given annually, recognizes teachers, administrators, students, or community members who have achieved outstanding results in promoting the study of modern and classical languages in his/her community. A letter written in support of her nomination for this award noted, "her service to our school, community, and state has been unyielding and always enthusiastic, and her resolve is unwavering, which means she has seen success from her persistence. "Señora Leavitt has been a teacher for over 35 years and has taught foreign languages at Greely for 25 years. She is a National
Board Certified Teacher in World Languages, serves as a mentor for National Board applicants and AP Spanish teachers in Maine, is a reader for the Advanced Placement (AP) exam, serves on several national and regional educational boards, and is an adjunct faculty member at St. Joseph's College in Standish, Maine.
Congratulations, Señora Leavitt!
